Coast Guard, City of Detroit announce media opportunities during security response exercise along Detroit-Windsor Corridor

DETROIT — More than 65 U. S. and Canadian federal, state and local emergency response partner agencies are scheduled to take part in a full-scale, cross-border security, mass rescue and oil spill response exercise, “Detroit River Readiness 2011," on Aug. 23 and 24 along the Detroit River Corridor from Trenton north in the river to Detroit and Windsor.

SCHEDULE:

Aug. 22, 3 p.m. —                               Press kickoff with Coast Guard Capt. Jeff OgdenSector Detroit commander, and Daryl Lundy, homeland security and emergency management director for the City of Detroit, at Milliken State Park.
Aug. 23, 9 a.m. —              Exercise begins.  Viewing area for media located at Milliken State Park.  There are also limited on-water media viewing opportunities.
Aug. 23, 2:15 p.m. — News conference at Detroit Port Authority Complex.  Scheduled to discuss exercise background and objectives are: Detroit Mayor Dave Bing; Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis; Congressman Hansen Clarke, representative for the 13th District of Michigan; Michigan Lt. Gov. Brian Calley; and participating agency heads.
Aug. 24, 8:30 a.m. — Exercise continues
