COAST GUARD RESCUES FIVE FROM WATERS OF LAKE ST CLAIR HARRISON TWP, MI - U.S. Coast Guard Station St Clair Shores rescued 5 persons from the waters of Lake St Clair off Metro Beach early Sunday Morning. U.S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit Command Center received notification from the Clay Township Police Department reporting that a vessel had hit a buoy and may have been sinking. The caller was unable to finish the call before her cell phone lost power. Initially, a 25' Rescue Boat from Station St. Clair Shores and a Macomb County Sheriffs boat were deployed. later an HH-65 Dolphin from Air Station Detroit. After 6 hours of searching the capsized vessel was found. Less than 10 minutes after launching the Helicopter located the survivors all wearing their lifejackets. The boat crew members on the 25'er swiftly rescued the 5 out of the water and transported them to shore. When they arrived, awaiting EMS took them to St Johns Hospital. All were suffering from mild hypothermia. Coast Guard Sector Detroit directly oversees all Coast Guard missions on Lake Huron, Lake St Clair and Western Lake Erie from Alpena, Michigan to Marblehead, Ohio. |
