COAST GUARD RESCUES THREE FISHERMEN FROM A PARTIALLY SUBMERGED VESSEL NEAR SAGINAW RIVER

DETROIT - U.S. Coast Guard Station Saginaw River rescued three fishermen three miles east of the mouth of Saginaw River at 5:40 p.m. today.

U.S. Coast Guard Station Saginaw River received a distress phone call from man onboard an eighteen foot aluminum fishing boat reporting his vessel was partially submerged three miles east of the mouth of Saginaw River and he and his friends were in the water and needed assistance.

A 25 foot response boat from Station Saginaw River launched to assist.  The three fishermen stayed with their vessel until the Coast Guard arrived, and the small boat crew pulled the three fishermen from the water within minutes of initial notification.  The rescued fishermen, from Prudenville, Michigan; Superior, Michigan; and Erlanger, Kentucky, were transferred to local EMS and are reportedly in good condition.

Coast Guard Sector Detroit reminds the boating public to exercise caution, wear properly fitted personal flotation device (PFD), tell a family member or friend where they are going and when they will return, and have a reliable means of communication.

Coast Guard Sector Detroit directly oversees all Coast Guard missions on South Lake Huron, Lake St Clair and Western Lake Erie from Alpena, Michigan to Vermillion, Ohio.
