CHARLES HERNDON TO RECEIVE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMENDATION
FROM THE U.S. COAST GUARD
 

DETROIT - Mr. Charles Herndon will receive the U.S. Coast Guard Public Service Commendation at a Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, ceremony at U.S. Coast Guard Station Marblehead, Ohio, at 11 a.m.

Capt. Patrick Brennan, Commander of U.S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit, will present Mr. Herndon with the citation.

Mr. Herndon will be cited for his courageous action, on Sept. 3, 2007, when he recovered a 7-year-old boy after a plane crash off Kelleys Island, Ohio, and provided additional assistance to rescue agencies following the incident.

"Great citizens do amazing things under extraordinary circumstances," said Brennan.  "Mr. Herndon's efforts were truly heroic and his assistance provided response agencies with valuable information."
