  MILWAUKEE CELEBRATES ARMED FORCES WEEK

MILWAUKEE - Recognized for more than 50 years on the third Saturday of May, Armed Forces Day honors the dedicated American men and women in uniform who serve selflessly to preserve democracy and freedom at home and around the world in times of war and peace.

The Milwaukee Armed Services Committee invites the public to help recognize and celebrate our country's men and women in uniform at several events taking place during the week leading up to Armed Forces Day.

On May 10, 2008, the Armed Forces will be honored and recognized during the Milwaukee Brewers game vs. the St. Louis Cardinals.  Game time is 2:45 p.m.; there will be a large pre-game ceremony spotlighting local service members.

There will be a multi-service military display in Veterans Park on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 17, 2008.  The displays will be open for viewing from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.  Included in the display will be a Coast Guard helicopter and rescue boat; Wisconsin Army National Guard helicopter; various types of military equipment from local Marine Corps, Navy, and Army Reserve units; a display from the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs to include activities for children; and many other items not normally on display to the public.  There will also be live music provided by members of the 84th Division Band.

Also on Armed Forces Day, the 6th Annual Support the Troops Motorcycle Ride will kickoff at the Veterans Affairs complex at 10:30 a.m. and will conclude with a ceremony at Veterans Park at 12:30 p.m..

Armed Forces Week 2008 is an effort by the Milwaukee Armed Services Committee to increase public awareness about the U. S. Armed Forces, and we invite all members of the public to join us in expressing appreciation to the men and women who are currently serving in uniform defending democracy and freedom.
