COAST GUARD ASSISTS FEMA WITH INDIANA FLOOD RELIEF

CLEVELAND - Coast Guard Air Facilities Waukegan, Ill. and Muskegon, Mich. are providing aerial support for severe weather and flooding in affected areas of Indianapolis, Ind. at the request of the Federal Emergency Management Agency today.

"There were varying reports of people on rooftops in southern Indiana. We're not taking any chances," said Lt. John Rose, Ninth Coast Guard District Command Center watchstander.

The air facilities are providing two HH-65C rescue helicopters for aerial reconnisance and hoist operations if necessary.

Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley of the Eighth Coast Guard District is the Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator and Incident Commander for the flood relief in FEMA Region 5.

The Ninth District operates two summer air facilities to forward-stage where there is a high concentration of recreational boaters to facilitate and enhance assistance and response time.

For further inquiries, contact the Ninth Coast Guard District Public Affairs Office at 216-902-6020 or the Duty cell at 216-310-2608.
