COAST GUARD MEDICALLY EVACUATES SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 19-year-old female from the Brig Niagara at approximately 12:40 p.m. in the St. Mary's River System today. A Coast Guard Station Sault Ste. Marie 30-foot response boat was launched to assist the ailing woman because she was suffering symptoms of appendicitis. The female was taken to awaiting Emergency Medical Services onshore at Coast Guard Station Sault Ste. Marie, and then she was transported to a local hospital. This was the second medical evacuation case for Station Sault Ste. Marie in two days.
