Detroit-based Coast Guard cutter receives
Meritorious Unit Commendation Award

CLEVELAND -- The Coast Guard Cutter Bristol Bay (WTGB-102), based in Detroit, received the Meritorious Unit Commendation during a Thursday morning ceremony held on the buoy deck of the cutter while she was moored here.

"The crew has proved themselves in the reliable execution of numerous missions, from ice-breaking, where they facilitated the movement of billions of dollars worth of cargo, to aids to navigation, where they ensured the safe navigation of vessels and protection of the environment, to serving as the on-scene commander for two large search and rescue cases. Bristol Bay's performance has been nothing short of outstanding, and the unit has rightfully earned the reputation as the "workhorse" of the Coast Guards Great Lakes fleet." said Capt. Lorne W. Thomas, Ninth Coast Guard District Chief of the Prevention Department, who presented the crew with the award for their dedication, hard work and readiness.
