Coast Guard participates in Earth Day clean-up CHICAGO - The U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Chicago will partner with the John G. Shedd Aquarium, Wednesday, for a Lake Michigan beach sweep event, here, in observance of Earth Day. Coast Guard members, families and friends will participate in the beach clean-up effort, exercising MSU Chicago’s role in marine safety and environmental protection. MSU Chicago is responsible for executing the Coast Guard’s port safety and security, marine environmental protection and commercial vessel safety missions under the Department of Homeland Security. "This event will compliment our stewardship with our environmental neighbor, Shedd Aquarium, and their ‘Listen to the Lakes’ campaign," said Lt. Walter L.
