Coast Guard investigating bird deaths on Cuyahoga River 

CLEVELAND - The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a possible pollution source after approximately 100-150 birds were found dead and another 30-40 birds were found in distress along the Cuyahoga River in the vicinity of the Cuyahoga River Turning Basin along Independence Rd.

U.S. Coast Guard Sector Buffalo received the report from the Ohio Department of Natural Resouces-Wildlife Division at approximately 9:00 a.m. Friday.

Marine Safety Unit Cleveland dispatched two investigation teams, one onboard a 25-foot response boat from Station Cleveland Harbor, and another on land along the river to assist the distressed animals and search for a possible pollution source.

 UPDATE:

Ohio Department of Natural Resources personnel are transporting the birds to a Wildlife Division facility. MSU Cleveland personell are investigating the source of any pollution.
