CLEVELAND - U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary operated Small Boat Station Alpena medically evacuated a 37-year-old crewman from the motor vessel Maumee approximately 26 nautical miles northeast of Alpena, Mich., at approximately 11:00 a.m. Friday.

U.S. Coast Guard Sector Sault Ste. Marie received a distress call from the Maumee at approximately 9:00 a.m., requesting assistance for a crewman who was exhibiting the signs of a possible heart attack.

When the HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Traverse City and 25-foot response boat from Station Alpena arrived on scene, the helicopter crew deployed their rescue swimmer and hoist litter. The crewmember was airlifted and transported to Alpena Regional Medical Center.

"When we arrived on scene, we had ideal weather conditions", said Lt. j.g. Aaron Antrim, co-pilot of the helicopter,"that, combined with our crew's experience and level of training allowed us to conduct a safe hoist and get the man to a hospital for further medical treatment."
