AGENCY ASSIST: Coast Guard rescues two from St. Clair River

CLEVELAND - U.S. Coast  Guard Station Port Huron assisted the Canadian Coast Guard in rescuing two persons in the water in the St. Clair River, Saturday at approximately 12:00 a.m.

Joint Rescue Coordination Center Trenton requested U.S. Coast Guard assistance in response to a report of two Canadian citizens whose dinghy capsized in the vicinity of the Blue Water Bridge.

Station Port Huron launched their 25-foot response boat and recovered both persons safely. They were then transported to waiting Emergency Medical Services on the Canadian side of the river.

“This was a very successful rescue”, said Chief Petty Officer Mike Dugas, an Operations Specialist in the Ninth District Command Center, “we were able to get the people out of the water and into medical care in about nine minutes.”

The U.S. Coast Guard encourages all mariners to wear life jackets and to carry a communications device, such as a marine-band radio while boating.
