Coast Guard to participate in "Fire over the Fox" festivities

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The U.S. Coast Guard will be participating in the “Fire Over the Fox” festivities here, Saturday, July 4, 2009.

In coordination with the City of Green Bay, Coast Guard leaders will be involved in the Coast Guard Veterans’ Salute in Leicht Memorial Park beginning at 1:45 p.m.  Speaking during this salute will be Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt, Rear Adm. John Korn from the Coast Guard Headquarters’ Acquisition Directorate, and Capt. Luann Barndt, the new Commander of Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan. 

During the event, the Coast Guard’s major small boat acquisition, the Response Boat – Medium (RB-M), will be displayed in the Fox River just off of Leicht Memorial Park.

The RB-M replaces the Coast Guard’s 41-foot utility boats, which have been in service for more than 30 years. The RB-M is designed to meet Coast Guard mission requirements for search and rescue, ports, waterways and coastal security; drug interdiction and migrant interdiction.

Additionally, the RB-M will support marine safety, aids to navigation, marine environmental protection, and national defense readiness missions.
