Coast Guard medically evacuates woman from Otter Island campsite

BAYFIELD, Wis. - U.S. Coast Guard Station Bayfield medically evacuated a 20-year-old female from the Otter Island Campsite 1 in the Apostle Islands after she suffered shock from an allergic reaction Friday at approximately 8 a.m.

A 30-foot utility boat-medium (UTM) crew with an Emergency Medical Technician on board transported the Arizona native to Red Cliff Marina.

"She was allergic to peanuts; she had a reaction to a breakfast cereal," said Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class Chris Lavalley.

After safe transport to shore, the station  transferred her to awaiting Emergency Medical Services, which brought her to Ashland Memorial Medical Center.

The woman was in stable condition.

The Coast Guard worked closely with the National Park Service to locate and transport the woman safely to shore.
