Coast Guard medically evacuates man from Beaver Island BEAVER ISLAND, Mich. - U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City medically evacuated a 67-year-old male experiencing breathing difficulties from the Beaver Island Airport at approximately 12 p.m. Saturday. "We initially had some difficulty getting into the island because of fog, but we popped up over the clouds and spotted the airport," said Ensign Daniel Phillips, HH-65C rescue helicopter pilot. "He apparently had very, very low oxygen levels, but he was in good spirits." A paramedic from Beaver Island Emergency Medical Services accompanied the flight crew to treat the man. The crew transferred the Beaver Island resident safely to shore at the air station, whereby awaiting EMS then transported him to Munson Hospital.
