Coast Guard medically evacuates woman from Mackinac Island

ST. IGNACE, Mich.—The U.S. Coast Guard medically evacuated a woman from Mackinac Island after she fell from a dock and fractured her leg at approximately 4 a.m. Thursday.

Coast Guard Station St. Ignace launched a 47-foot motor life boat (MLB), with Emergency Medical Services onboard. The woman was transported from Mackinac Island to St. Ignace, where she was taken to a local hospital.

“She was in stable condition,” said Petty Officer Katharine Quick, a crewmember on the 47-foot motor life boat. “EMS put a splint on her leg on the way to St. Ignace and she seemed to be okay.”

Mackinac Island Clinic contacted the Coast Guard and requested a medical evacuation for the woman.

The Coast Guard in St. Ignace effects safe and expeditious transport of those in need of medical attention due to its proximity to Mackinac Island.
