Coast Guard rescues two from capsized sail boat SANDUSKY, Ohio - U.S. Coast Guard Station Marblehead rescued two males from a capsized 15-foot Hobey Cat offshore Cedar Point Tuesday at approximately 2:30 p.m. A 25-foot small response boat (RB-S) crew plucked up the two safely nearby their capsized sail boat. "They were waving their arms, and they were wearing their life jackets," said Operations Specialist 2nd Class Nathan Mathis, Coast Guard Sector Detroit Command Center. The station received the distress call at approximately 2:10 p.m. and arrived on scene to rescue the pair within approximately 10 minutes. Initially, a good samaritan arrived to assist when they saw the men in distress waving their arms; however, the good sam called the Coast Guard when they were not able to bring the two on board. The two had no medical concerns or injuries. The law states you must have a personal floatation device on board, but the Coast Guard recommends you wear your PFD at all times when boating. It is much more difficult to locate, access or don a PFD at the moment the accident occurs. In addition, life jackets not only increase a person's chances of surviving in the water but also enhance their visibility to rescuers.
