Coast Guard medically evacuates crewman from Canadian tanker CLEVELAND - U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Detroit medically evacuated a 51-year-old crewman experiencing stroke-like symptoms aboard a Canadian cargo tanker in the Western Basin of Lake Erie approximately 27 nautical miles offshore Cleveland Thursday at approximately 1:30 p.m. A Detroit HH-65C crew lowered a rescue swimmer and litter on board the 730-foot Algolake to transport the crewman to the Windsor, Ont. Airport. "We had good support from Sarnia; we were able to talk with the vessel - they had him ready to go," said Lt. j.g. Derek Lehr, Public Affairs Officer, Air Station Detroit. Apparently, after sustaining an injury in the engine room, he began to exhibit signs of a possible heart attack. He was conscious upon medical evacuation. The Coast Guard worked closely with the Joint Rescue Coordination Center Trenton to deliver the crewmember to safe and immediate medical attention.
