09-15-2009 USCG Sector Lake Michigan volunteers during National Day of Service and Remembrance

In this photo provided by the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan, Sector personnel pose near the Salvation Army Centennial Church sign, in Oak Creek, Wisc., after volunteering during the Sept. 11, 2009, National Day of Service and Remembrance.  Sector members assisted in preparation for the grand opening of the Salvation Army's building renovation and expansion, which took place on Sept. 12.  Sector members assisted by assembling furniture, relocating more than 300 chairs, general cleaning and painting of new offices.  The expantion will house the onle three- and four-year-old pre-kindergarten schools for the community of Oak Creek.

Located in Milwaukee, Wisc., Sector Lake Michigan is the operational and administrative command for 22 subordinate field units, including 19 multi-mission Stations, 1 Marine Safety Unit, 1 Marine Safety Detachment and 1 Sector Field Office. Sector Lake Michigan is responsible for all Coast Guard missions on Lake Michigan and surrounding navigable waterways, including search and rescue, law enforcement, aids to navigation, marine safety, and homeland security.
