COAST GUARD AND BORDER PATROL JOIN FORCES IN DRUG BUST DETROIT - U.S. Coast Guard and Border Patrol forces teamed together to intercept suspected drug smuggling operation off Grosse Ile, Michigan. A Coast Guard Homeland Security Response Boat (RB-HS) from Coast Guard Station Belle Isle responded to a request from Border Patrol to intercept a vessel suspected of engaging in drug smugging operations. U.S. Coast Guard has detained 1 person and boat suspected of engaging in drug smuggling operations. In addition, the Coast Guard has recovered six duffle bags each weighing approximately 100 lbs. These bags are suspected of containing marijuana. Currently, the boat and crew are being towed to Grosse Ile Marina for further investigation.
