NEW COAST GUARD STATION DEDICATED IN PORT HURON, MICHIGAN

PORT HURON - U.S. Coast Guard officials and crew, Congresswoman Candice Miller (R – 10th Michigan) and more than 50 international, state and local officials and guests gathered Friday to mark the Coast Guard's newest addition to Coast Guard capabilities.  Coast Guard Station Port Huron conducted a formal dedication for the newly constructed station.

Over the past four years, the station has conducted an average of 100 search and rescue cases and 50 law enforcement boardings annually saving or assisting over 157 people and $4.2 million dollars worth of property.  In addition, the Station and its crew dedicated over 640 hours in the last 3 years on maritime homeland security, protecting our nation’s ports and waterways.  Station Port Huron has contributed to the significant progress in making our local ports and waterways are safer and more secure.  Station Port Huron has become a front runner in the Great Lakes homeland security by increasing patrols of critical infrastructure, enforcing security zones, escorting vessels as they transit key port areas, conducting random boardings of small boats, and constantly analyzing intelligence to gain better maritime domain awareness and identify potential threats early.

This new Station building has exceptional technological foresight and enhanced capabilities needed for the Coast Guard to continue advancing into the 21st century.  This station was modeled after the successful designs for our nation’s fire stations and houses.  It includes special design features such that will enhance the lives of assigned crew and their ability to respond.
