COAST GUARD, LOCAL AGENCIES SEARCH FOR PERSON THRU ICE SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. - The ice rescue crew from Coast Guard Station Sault Ste. Marie responded to a call of a person thru the ice in the Saint Mary's River near the Rotary Park. The Coast Guard received the call of the person thru the ice at 9:25 p.m. and the ice rescue team responded to the scene by 9:40 p.m. They responded in a coordinated effort with local and state police as well as the local fire department. A Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin Helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City was also dispatched to the scene and is currently conducting searches of the surrounding area. A local dive team has responded and are conducting sub surface searches. The reporting source reportedly herd calls for help from a person out on the ice. He then called 911 to help secure immediate help.
