COAST GUARD GROUP MILWAUKEE WINS PUBLIC RELATIONS TOP HONOR

 

MILWAUKEE – Coast Guard Group Milwaukee has won the Coast Guard’s 2004 Commander Jim Simpson award for best public affairs program.

 

The Commander Jim Simpson Award is named for the first press assistant to the Commandant of the Coast Guard and recognizes excellence in a unit’s overall public affairs program including media relations, community relations and internal information.  Group Milwaukee beat out 38 other Group commands and 47 Marine Safety Offices around the country to take top honors. Marine Safety Office San Francisco won second place, and Group - Marine Safety Office Detroit received honorable mention. In 2003 Group Milwaukee took second place in the same competition.

 

            “The Coast Guard has a great story to tell,” said Lieutenant Mike Hegedus, Group Milwaukee’s acting public affairs officer.  “We’ve cultivated solid relations with the media in Milwaukee, Chicago and Green Bay – and it’s paid off.”
