Marine Safety Unit Duluth to hold change-of-command ceremony

CLEVELAND – U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Duluth is scheduled to hold a change-of-command ceremony Friday, July 16, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the Harbor Side room of the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center.

During the ceremony, Cmdr. Michael P. Lebsack will transfer command to Cmdr. Kenneth R. Bryan. Capt. Joseph McGuiness, commander of Sector Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., will preside over the ceremony.

Lebsack is departing to serve as the deputy commander of the National Strike Force Coordination Center in Elizabeth City, N.C. Bryan is reporting from the command cadre of Coast Guard Activities Europe.

The change-of-command ceremony is a time-honored tradition and deeply rooted in Coast Guard and Naval history. The event signifies a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability for the command. The ceremony is attended by all members of the unit so they all witness the transfer of leadership.
