U.S. Coast Guard establishes security zone for Tall Ships

DULUTH, Minn. -- The U.S. Coast Guard has established a moving safety and security zone in support of the Tall Ships Parade of Sail scheduled for Thursday, July 29, 2010, from noon until 5 p.m. All vessels are required by federal law to remain 100 yards away from the Tall Ships while the ships are in transit and 50 yards away while the ships are moored. The U.S. Coast Guard will restrict the Duluth harbor entrance near the Lift Bridge and the harbor in front of the DECC to the Tall Ships and their escort boats only as the ships approach the entry into Duluth harbor. The boating public is reminded to follow all instructions from law enforcement vessels and escort vessels during the Tall Ships event.

Media members wishing to cover the event, please contact Lt. Aaron Gross at 218-720-5286 ext. 111 or Petty Officer Bowden at 218-529-3100.
