Coast Guard medically evacuates injured 12-year-old boy

A U.S. Coast Guard rescue crew from Station Charlevoix, Mich., medically evacuated a 12-year-old boy from Oyster Bay in Charlevoix July 28, 2010.

The boy was reportedly riding on the back of a personal watercraft with his father when he fell off and injured his arm around 5 p.m.

Coast Guard Station Charlevoix immediately launched a 25-foot Response Boat-Small (RB-S), brought the injured boy aboard and took him to the station where he was met by EMS and transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

The boy was wearing a life jacket at the time of the accident.

The Coast Guard urges operators and passengers of personal watercraft to always wear life jackets and travel at safe speeds.
