Coast Guard suspends search for teenagers missing near Michigan City Lighthouse

CLEVELAND – The U.S. Coast Guard suspended its search for two missing teenagers, who were last seen struggling while swimming on the east side of the Michigan City, Ind., Lighthouse, at about 12:40 p.m. CST, August 23, 2010.

Units from Coast Guard Station Michigan City and Coast Guard Air Facility Muskegon searched for 20 continuous before the search was suspended.

The Coast Guard suspends a search and rescue case with extremely great care and deliberation. After a probable search area is saturated several times with a maximum number of assets, resources and crew effort, and persons in distress are still not located, a decision is made to suspend a case.

The Coast Guard can resume a search if credible information is received that persons reported missing have survived
